If you are visiting Saudi Arabia and plan to rent a car, start by checking whether your driving licence is valid for use in the Kingdom. The rental company can apply additional eligibility rules, but Saudi traffic law provides a clear baseline for foreign and international licences.

What does Saudi traffic law say?

Article 42 of the Saudi Traffic Law states that an international or foreign driving licence is valid for one year from the date the holder enters the Kingdom, or until the licence expires, whichever comes first. That does not remove rental-company requirements or the need for the licence to cover the vehicle class you intend to drive.

What should a visitor check before booking?

• Make sure the original licence is valid.
• Consider the entry date when applying the legal validity period.

The licence is not the only rental condition
