The driving document you can use in Dubai depends on your status and the country that issued your licence. Visitor rules are not the same as resident rules, so check your current status before renting.
If you are visiting Dubai
Dubai RTA states that a person on a visit visa can drive light vehicles or motorcycles with a valid licence from a GCC country or a country on its exception list. If your licence is not in one of those groups, verify the current requirement, including whether an International Driving Permit is needed, before you travel.
If you are a UAE resident
Do not assume the same visitor exception continues after residency. RTA's current guidance includes cases where residents must exchange an eligible foreign licence or obtain a UAE licence before driving.
Your rental company still checks eligibility
Regulatory eligibility and the rental company's booking requirements are related but separate checks. Bring the original licence and identity or residency documents requested in the live offer and contract.

- Country that issued your driving licence.
- Licence validity and vehicle category.
- Any translation or IDP requirement that applies to you.
