International Repair Day takes place on 17 October 2026 for its tenth edition under the theme “Repair Brings Us Together.” With a rental car, a repair mindset begins with documentation and communication—not attempting work on a vehicle you do not own.

Start the inspection at pickup
Inspect the car in good light before leaving: body, glass, wheels, cabin, fuel or charge level, and supplied equipment. Record dated photos and video, add every defect to the handover form, and keep a signed copy.
Know the help route before you need it
Save the rental company and roadside numbers plus the plate and agreement number. Check assistance coverage, exclusions, and the location of the triangle, vest and tyre kit if supplied. Contracts differ, so never assume an unauthorised repair or tow will be reimbursed.
If the car breaks down, put safety first
Move to a safe place if possible, use hazard lights, and follow local emergency rules. Do not continue with a serious warning and do not attempt repairs yourself; contact the provider and follow its instructions for assistance, recovery or replacement.
Return the car with clear evidence
Inspect again and record condition, fuel or charge and mileage. Request a written statement of return condition when available, and keep photos, the agreement and receipts until every pending charge is closed.
