12 October is World Arthritis Day. If joint pain or limited mobility is part of your trip, choosing a rental should not start with price alone: test access, seating and controls before accepting the keys.

What is today’s global observance?
EULAR explains that World Arthritis Day raises awareness of rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases, a group of more than 200 conditions. The 2026 campaign theme is “Achieve Your Dreams”, focusing on understanding, support and earlier access to care. This article is a travel-planning checklist, not a diagnosis or medical advice.
Test entry and exit before accepting the car
Ask to see the actual vehicle, open the door fully, and test seat height, opening width, support handles and room to turn your legs. Confirm you can reach the belt and pedals, turn the wheel and see around the car safely. If any task is painful or unsafe, request another class and do not drive.
Set the seat and controls before leaving the branch
Move the seat, backrest, steering wheel and mirrors until the pedals are reachable without over-stretching and visibility is clear. Wider doors, automatic transmission, power steering and multi-direction seat adjustment may help. Never fit an adaptation or accessory to a rental without the company’s approval.
Split the journey and agree honest driver handovers
Plan shorter stages and regular breaks, ask for luggage help when needed, and choose lawful parking close to the destination. If a condition or medicine could affect driving, follow your clinician’s advice and local licensing rules, and hand over to a qualified driver. Safety matters more than completing the itinerary.
