World Standards Day falls on 14 October 2026 and this year spotlights affordable and clean energy. For a renter, standards become practical at pickup through a clear pressure label, understandable warning lights, and a short check before driving.

Why is World Standards Day relevant to renters?
Standardised labels and warnings help drivers compare information and act safely. This is a pickup checklist, not advice for repairing or diagnosing a tire.
Read the vehicle placard, not the tire sidewall
The recommended cold-tire pressure is on the driver-door label or in the vehicle manual, and front and rear values may differ. Do not use the maximum pressure printed on the tire sidewall; ask the rental desk if the information is unclear.
Inspect all four tires and the dashboard
Before leaving a well-lit pickup area, look for cuts, bulges, nails, a visibly low tire, or uneven wear. Switch the vehicle on, check the tire-pressure monitoring and other warning lights, and ask where the spare tire or inflator kit is.
Treat a warning as a handover issue
If the pressure light stays on or flashes, or you see damage or doubt the pressure, do not reset the warning, repair the tire, or continue the trip. Photograph the condition at pickup and ask the rental company to inspect, correct, or replace the vehicle.
