Read the fuel clause before booking
Do not try to predict the market; compare the vehicle class, specified fuel and return policy. Ask whether the contract is full-to-full, same-to-same or prepaid, and how missing fuel and service fees are calculated.
Calculate the total cost
Estimate distance and consumption before buying prepaid fuel; it helps only if you use most of it and the unused-fuel terms are clear. Keep the receipt, photograph the gauge, odometer and time, and use the grade stated in the contract or on the fuel flap.
Document the handover
Check the level at pickup and report any mismatch before leaving. Return to the contract level, never store fuel in an unsafe container or make a risky detour for a small saving, and request a written explanation for any disputed charge.
